Few things cause panic faster than turning on the tap and getting nothing. Whether it's the middle of a hot Texas summer or a quiet Sunday morning, losing water pressure stops your household in its tracks. Before you call for emergency service, there are several quick checks that can either solve the problem immediately or give our technician critical information that speeds up the repair.
Check Your Electrical Panel
Start at your breaker panel. Well pumps draw significant power, and a power surge, lightning strike, or overloaded circuit can trip the breaker. Locate the breaker labeled "well pump" or "pump" and verify it's in the ON position. If it has tripped, reset it once. If it trips again immediately, do not reset it again—this indicates an electrical fault that requires professional attention. A repeatedly tripping breaker can damage your pump motor if you keep forcing it.
Listen for the Pump
Go outside to your wellhead or pump house and listen carefully. A functioning submersible pump should produce a low humming sound when running. If you hear a loud clicking noise, the pressure switch may be trying to start the pump but failing. If you hear nothing at all and the breaker is on, the pump motor, pressure switch, or control box may have failed. Note exactly what you hear and tell our dispatcher—this helps us bring the right parts.
Inspect for Visible Leaks
Walk your property and look for unusually wet spots, bubbling water, or areas where grass is suddenly greener than the rest of your lawn. A broken pipe between the well and your house can cause a complete pressure loss while the pump runs continuously underground. If you find a wet spot, turn off the well breaker immediately to prevent pump damage and water waste.
