Franklin Electric Subdrive Pumptec

August 10, 2016

Franklin Electric's SubDrive and PumpTec systems represent some of the most advanced pump protection technology available for residential and agricultural well systems. These electronic control systems protect submersible pumps from the most common causes of failure while providing features that simplify monitoring and troubleshooting. At 77 Water Well Inc., we install and service these systems for homeowners across North Houston who want the best protection for their well investment.

PumpTec Pump Protection

The PumpTec system continuously monitors your pump's electrical signature to detect problems before they cause damage. It protects against dry well conditions by sensing when the pump is drawing less power than normal, indicating insufficient water flow. It detects dead head situations where the pump runs against a closed valve, which can overheat and destroy the motor. It also identifies bound pump conditions where sand or debris has jammed the impeller. When any of these conditions are detected, PumpTec shuts down the pump to prevent burnout and attempts automatic restart at programmed intervals.

SubDrive Constant Pressure Systems

Franklin's SubDrive line provides variable speed control for submersible pumps, delivering constant water pressure regardless of demand. Unlike traditional systems where pressure fluctuates between 30 and 50 PSI, a SubDrive system maintains your set pressure—typically 50 or 60 PSI—whether you're running a single faucet or multiple showers simultaneously. The variable speed control also reduces pump wear by eliminating the stress of full-speed starts and stops.

Installation and Setup

Proper installation is critical for these electronic systems. The control box must be sized correctly for your specific pump model, and the wiring must be properly grounded to prevent interference. Programming the system requires knowledge of your well's depth, pump specifications, and desired pressure settings. Our technicians are factory-trained on Franklin Electric systems and ensure every installation is configured for optimal performance and protection.

Troubleshooting and Service

When the FE Connect light illuminates solid, your system is properly configured. If you experience problems, the diagnostic LED indicators on the control box provide specific error codes that tell us exactly what's happening. This speeds up troubleshooting and gets your water flowing again faster. We carry replacement SubDrive and PumpTec units on our service trucks for same-day replacement when needed.
